So I have just turned 18, and that was considered a major life milestone in Russia. I can’t recall who’s idea that was, but I found myself in a photography studio by the nearest metro station to our home. The studio was really dark and gloomy, and as I entered it, I already started to feel rather intimidated. The photographer was a mid-aged lady, rather scruffy and slightly tipsy. She sat me down on this old-fashioned chair, and started fiddling with her camera… She kept telling me to move my head up and down, left and right, and she was getting increasingly frustrated. And then finally she said : ” You know darling, you have a really difficult nose!”…
Not sure how this comment was supposed to correct my nose’s behaviour, but I do recall feeling rather sorry for my nose. And I really wished I could do something about it! Needless to say, me and my difficult nose looked a bit sad on the final photograph.
I have completely forgotten about this experience until quite recently. As I photograph more and more adults, I have to be very conscious about what I say. One wrong comment or gesture could so easily damage someone’s confidence…
I always keep this famous quote in mind: “People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel”.
I want all my clients to feel absolutely great about themselves!
